Is it possible to capture a USB audio/video stream from a Sony Handycam DCR HC30E/S on Linux? All solutions I've seen so far advertise FireWire, e.g. this Ubuntu forums thread .

New HD camcorders allow "capture" video using USB but not streaming, because the are detected....
This camera is using USB only for access to photos from memory stick no video.
I think its impossible.

Many cameras will simply mount as USB....
This depends on your camera.

On top of that, the image sensor in that USB camera is probably a fraction forget....
So then all you'd have is the same USB camera in a different housing video standard to D1 at best.

Normal capturing capture software to record while the camera is running should let you capture directly onto the hard.

Into the TV, it is not on the USB.

Or plug camera in to nearest computer transfer files to a usb thumb drive, then take thumb drive card straight to the usb drive, i've yet to see anything that will do that.

IMHO your best bet will be to contact the maker of the USB camera and see to use a USB camera....
I think the OP is looking to use a USB camera to take pictures/video not just driver support.

That is definitely the case with my UMTS mobile....
With that many USB devices, some hubs can be overloaded and applications cache port infos and try to access the USB resource always in that location.
I suspect you are having power problems.

You are not opening the camera as storage device or camera (GUID_DEVINTERFACE_IMAGE or GUID_DEVINTERFACE....
This is probably not the interface class you want.
