You should never try and rely on paint for a vapor barrier. If you get a crack in a corner or along the floor line or ceiling, bye bye vapor barrier.

Sounds like the OP didn't use the paper-faced insulation....

I have come across different advice regarding the use of vapor barrier behind cement board.
the Hardiebacker (which is what i am using for my bathroom) documentation does not mention anything about it but a book that i have does.
should i use vapor barrier...

Cement board is more porpus than hardibacker, but either way, I would recommend a vapor barrier..

Hi All,
Location is Central Florida.
I'm currently rebuilding a tub surround.
2 walls are concrete block , 1 is wood .
I plan on just putting up Hardi Backer board and adhereing the tub surround to that .
Do I need to put a Vapor barrier ,, AND foam board...

So, by using extruded polystyrene barrier and what side of the insulation it should be on because you don't need a vapour barrier at all.
Means that it doesn't need a vapour barrier on either side of it.
