XO-1 @ 100mph without front splitter = air time... Video I don't think i even hit 100mph on this run but i hit the throttle a little too hard at the wrong moment and the wind lifted the front. No damage other then body. That's what i get for driving without...

I have a standard VGA splitter connected to a nvidia nforce 631i on ubuntu 9.04. However, when the splitter is in use, the image gets dark. If I unplug one cable, it doesn't. this phenomenon is noted elsewhere on the net, but no solution.

If the video card has both dvi and vga outs, you can use the dvi out as a vga source splitter.
splitter that will replicate and repeat the signal to the other monitor rather than just passively split it.

My GPU (Radeon 6870 1GB) requires two 2-pin power adapters. I have the option of 2x6-pin plugs from the PSU or 1x6-pin splitter --> 2-pin to power the GPU.

I think the 6 pin connectors have a 75W limit, plus some (not all) PSUs may have OCP on that cable depending on topology, so potentially you run the risk of hitting OCP (over current protection... .
That's what they're for.
You have two 6-pin connectors, use them.

I have a GTX 275 video card with 2 DVI ports. I already run 2 monitors, but I've seen cables that plug into one DVI port and split into 2 more connectors.
Is there some special trick to getting this to work with my card so I could have up to 4 monitors...

I have seen splitters on video cards (like the Dell I am on now DVI's.
You will need something like port to two monitors.
Unfortunately a splitter will just mirror the display on 2 monitors.
