I'm thinking about virtualizing Windows Home Server, mainly just for some testing and troubleshooting (right now, anyways -- nothing long term). I've got hardware that should easily pull it off, but because WHS can be a bit of its own beast the way it...

I use it both for testing and development, and....
Depending.
I wouldn't worry too much about it.
Because WHS runs on very cheap commodity hardware, and because it's targeted at home users (thus find "Best Practices" for virtualizing it.

I thought this was the best section as it mainly has to do with virtualizing 2 network things.

I like to give pfdense its own nics when going virtual.
Preferably 3.

I have pfsense and WHS 2011 on an ESXi host.
Multiple virtual hard drives on one physical drive.

Is it possible to run VMWare Server v2 on Windows Home Server? Is this the best virtualization product for a home environment that wants a 24x7 virtual development OS/Server?

If your WHS uses RAID, you will likely lose it on ESXi as it is unlikely that ESXi.
If you haven't to be translated though the OS.
Yeah, but you'd be better off running ESXi on the hardware and WHS on top of that.

Hi
I'm keen to centralise all my Media storage and tuners to a single server device, ideally a WHS 2011 system.
This is both an aesthetic, and practical descision - fewer PCs cluttering the place up, fewer wires, less Energy consumption.
I have tried ...
