Bad drivers and hardware....
How far do you get in the boot process? Can you enter the BIOS? Can you boot into safe mode/use VESA drivers? This can be caused by numerous things .
We're going to need more details to make accurate assumptions as to what's going on .

Apparently it messed up explanations on MBR, Vista changes and so on can be found here .
In my second edit, a side-effect of using the Vista DVD to restore the MBR.
