I would like to watch videos recorded on my DVD video camera, and stored on my PC, through by wi-fi enabled blu-ray player.
I have the PC and blu-ray player set up and working (I can look at photos and listen to mp3).

On how I can convert my VOB to avi? I don't know what the video format is, just that the container is VOB it? What about the VOB_TS.VOB file?
Are you sure the blu-ray player doesn't recognize mpeg-4.

I'm trying to burn a DVD in DeVeDe under ubuntu -- on my computer it's already in DVD format (a VIDEO_TS folder) but when I try and drag it into DeVeDe it says "Some files weren't video files. None added."

I added a VOB file and marked the option "This is already a DVD/xCD-suitable MPEG file", but DeVeDe fails.
Bobince is almost correct.

DVD's have multiple VOB files') camcorders today.
ALSO, Emory touched on something important.
Just rename the file from .vob to .mpg files from Encore CS3.
In Premiere (CS3) you need to change the file extension to mpg.

You could also try convert just this dvd vob with the old handbrake 0.9.3 or staxrip or xvid4psp 5.
Post the details from the VOB, use MediaInfo , View->Text.
