While I look for a job, I'd like to do something useful with my time. I have a feeling there must be schools or charities or other worthy organisations that could use some of my time, but I've no idea how to go about finding them. Is there a marketplace...

Ben, I have no idea.
Charity find a lot of stuff you can just jump in, make work, and be happy with it.
Will they (most likely) have some work, the work should also be useful and quite clearly specsed.

been here 9 years and this has been offered whilst they are restructuring our computing services and it seems a done deal to outsource everything. offer is 9 months (1 per year service ) salary tax free. need to make up mind...

I have recently applied for a voluntary redundancy. No formal letter was issued by the company accepting it. I now wish to retruct it. Does the company have to accept withdrawal or is it their goodwill now?

That is the chance you take.
Redundant will it then be non-voluntary redundancy? It's important because voluntary redundancy mean not clear, I am not a native English speaker.

Set up my own IT consultancy in Nov and tbh at the moment there's loads of work work.
I took voluntary redundancy in Nov 2010, and haven't been out of work since.
