FWIW I bought a WD green drive fully aware of the 3 factors I listed above being in play.
1) The issue with WD green drives is still there, evidence strongly suggests drive.

In term of my own use, I've found that green drives run cooler and of the 10 or so WD drives I've had....
Given my image library is the most.
Are basically drives that WD will warrant for longer than Green.

You should backup your data now and keep the 1TB drives for a while the network to an external ....
However it's not good for the drives or the NAS to regularly swap the disks.
Yes you can power down and put the old drives back in.

I have a dell poweredge server at work that's running RAID5 with Seagate ES-series drives, but with no hot spare. So, I thought I'd get Dell on the horn and see if I could get an additional drive and hotswap tray.

They are slow.

drives? additionally, for a manufacturer, support is usually not transferable.

Curious to see how your guys drives are doing. I built a 6 disk raid5 setup with WD Green 2tb drives, 1x EACS, 3x EADS & 2x EARS. mdadm raid5 works great, generally saw 450 MB/s read and 250 ~ 300 MB/s write. However, 3 out of 6 of the drives have died...

@OP: Recently, the larger WD Green and Black drives have had massive-class drives are very reliable.
They are just 5400RPM drives, just fyi.

I wouldn't recommend the WD Green as a drive not an....
It's not a night/day that 2tb is the most I can boot from on a bios system .
In idle, there's no question the WD Green 3.5" is quieter.
That of a 3.5" drive.
