I always have a runny nose under my mask when I'm in the OR. My face and nose also tend to itch and can't do anything about it because I'm scrubbed in. It's very uncomfortable and distracting. I tried almost every non-drowsy anti allergic med out there...

It may simply be the smell of the mask making it worse.
As it sounds, try different masks! I was in surgery 3 weeks before I found the eye protection/mask combo that made me comfortable.
