I always buy off the registry (ours is a registry gift for the shower, cash for the wedding is one of those....
Wedding gift is cash it is.
Shower gifts from the registry and spend between $50-$100, more if it's family.

This must be another regional thing. I had NEVER heard of this until reading it here....that people base the cost of their wedding gift by how much their plate/food costs???
