I'm fabbing a electric motor mount for a small conveyer belt. the frame that i need to weld the mount to is 2"x2" stainless steel. i'm using a 12"x14"x3/8" plate from steel and 2 8"x8"x1/4" gussets. My question is, can i use regular .030" wire and 75/...

Stainless steel conveyer frame? Sounds like something/someplace where the stainless factor is important or....
Note that if you do so, you may (probably) will end up with no-longer 'stainless' in the weldi think you need 309L wire..
I've got to put a O2 bung in my stainless exhaust (non Chevelle) so that I can use a new wideband O2 meter. The WB manufacturer sent me what looks to be a mild steel bung. Can this be welded to stainless? If so, what mig wire and gas would be needed? ...

I weld stainless for a living almost all welded pretty much ....
I'm not sure of the wire to use 'til tomorrow and someone will answer the question here .
Yes, you can weld steel to stainless or stainless to steel.
I have a couple of sections of 4" stainless tube. I don't weld, so as to not look like a fool when I ask someone who does, is there anything special, i.e. rod that I need? Wish we had a "neighborhood Lanse" around. Larry

Where I used to work, we had SMAW (arc) weld kind.
The type of stainless and preferably use a tig process.

Not done it myself but I have seen flux cored stainless used to weld wear plates into dump truck stainless wire but it is expensive.

When welding 316L stainless, are there any code rules (ASME or AWS) that specify the heat input limits/control? Is there a reason to be concerned about heat input for 316L stainless? Also, is there any real heat affected zone for welded 316L stainless...

The gas pipe had split were it connected to the torch with a crimp so on some angles it opened up starving the tip of any gas hence tungsten died ... .
Had this last year on a cheap r tech 160dc .
Out of intrest have you got good gas flow at the torch end .
