If possible, always resize win7 partition with windows....
But you shouldn't have touched the win7 partition with Gparted.
If you are booting from an Ubuntu LiveCD, try this to restore the Windows bootloader without having with linux tools.

Actually, if you can spare a 8GB flash drive,
I would suggest using that for the Ubuntu install installed first, then used a USB drive to install....
Personnally, I would install Ubuntu first.
