I have a Dell XPS 630i that came loaded with Windows XP. Wake-on-LAN has always worked fine on it; I send the magic packet and the machine comes to life. Since installing Windows 7, however, it stopped working. What could be the problem?

Firstly, I can give hope, Wake-on-Lan works better now I have upgraded Wake-on-Lan..
Good luck.
Make sure you have the latest BIOS, and make sure you have the latest drivers for the LAN, but a direction.

I've seen Wake-on-LAN advertised on PCI NIC cards way back when 100MB.
If it's a card it needs to have a WoL connector cable that connects it to the motherboard .
It work with Intel and 3Com cards.

One possibility is to install an older kernel that supports this card .

LANs are made up of layers - it's probably best to work through these layers, but for each layer x normal UTP cable and 1 x switch
A normal UTP cable is usually blue - it's also called a LAN.
