In the document attached the vi on the right is sub to the vi on the left. On the subvi on the right the variable "Field Reading" is continuously updated on the front panel of the subvi as the "for" loop is executed, but only the last value of the variable...

To create the reference control in the subVI, select a control refnum from the refnum pallette and drag a numeric (or whatever) over....
But here is an example of how to update an indicator from a subVI.
I don't have the drivers you are using.

Can I use a global variable to stop a while loop in a subvi? I have a top VI that has 3 identical SUBVI's, the SUBVI control power supplies. I want to stop the SUBVI's with a control in the top level. If I can't use a global VI what should I use?

You can do that one of two ways:

Can you call a subVI in MatLab script node, or does the SubVI 'node' always have to be used?
If this can be done, how is it done - can 'load' be used followed by the subVI address on the computer?

Calling the Matlab script node accesses a true/false node, and for true it runs one SubVI, and for false it runs an alternative.
No, you cannot call a subVI from a Matlab script node.

The external cluster is how you pass data to a subVI through the connector....
Why are there local variables in the subVI and why do you care.
Did someone else write the VI and subVI? If the cluster.

You can do two things here....
A structure, such as a loop or subVI or function your file write (bottom loop) cannot execute until your top loop is done executing, because it depends button.
Don't seem to understand the concept of dataflow.

Christian Interesting, but I would like to avoid filling my code with many instaces of a global variable... .
I prefer to use a Global Variable to hold the FPGA reference and I activate the dynamic mode .
There are several options to handle this.
