If not, stay with Vista.
Before you do anything make sure that XP drivers are available from your computer's manufacturer.
The only way to switch to XP is to clean install XP.
You cannot "downgrade".

I think the only way you can downgrade an existing Vista to XP is to install XP over it.

I tried searching but couldn't find a definitive answer. In order to downgrade to XP Pro, I have read that I need to have at least Windows 7 Pro or Ultimate installed.

Of the 4446 models (not yours) were sold with a Vista license but an XP downgrade installed.
