It's probably due to the DPI setting in Windows XP.
Edit: I forgot to mention that you can keep things looking 'normal' at any dpi setting .

Windows XP SP1 disk says it needs 2 gig, SP2 probably a bit more, same with SP3 to make the XP Install take....
A normal Windows XP installation will take up about 3GB of space including the normal just about 2 gig.

Instead of WAMP, I recommend XAMPP, for Cross Platform (X), Apache, MySQL, PHP, and Perl, all in ... .

Why does Windows 7's Virtual PC running Win XP Professional has no "Shut down" button -- if clicking on START, there is only "Log off".

All XP Mode does is make it so you can run programs in a virtual machine under Windows XP, but have them appear to be native the applications that need the drivers....
Drivers installed in XP Mode have no effect on the host system.
