They have left all reference to Zen as such and teach the Buddhist teachings....
To be Buddhism, but all the Buddhist teachings propounded in the sutras and sastras are treated by Zen, but outside any kind of formality altogether.

It seems that Advaita teachers and teachings come up often here at ZFI. Some see little difference between the two traditions, others see huge differences. My own opinion is that the two traditions are *very* close in how awakening is described and experienced...

After reading The Three Pillars of Zen and Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind, I'm left with a feeling that the point of Zen is to recreate what Siddhartha Gotama already did and that was to become enlightened (to the cause and cure of suffering).

I have never met ....
I have never met a Zen teacher who does not teach about non-self, impermanence, suffering.
The difference may lie in that in Zen we do not take the teachings for granted and accept them, we better.
