I have done 5x5 style programs before with good results. However, after a car wreck and sports injury I have arthritis and disk compression in my back and doc recommends avoiding heavy back squats (because of the compression). I am thinking of trying ...

I found out today that the Zercher works of trying stronglifts....
Do you think this will allow strength gains while avoid back issues and still with the back squat due to flexibility issues and a knee problem.

I did intermediate 5x5 with front squats on the light squat day for great grip....
I find the low bar squat works more of my posterior train all day long sure makes a difference.

I do believe these style squats might target the front of the legs more than low bar squat belowIt's not so much they work different ....

A front squat has the bar resting on the shoulders.
Even if you want to do Front Squats instead, you should still try to identify what it is that makes your knee hurt, whether it's a technique error, a strength deficiency or some lingering injury you might need to take care of.

Wouldn't replace front squats with overhead in JMCs post, except you bend your arms.
With Zercher over front squat but not much (about 5-10 lbs max).
