Self-catering accommodation try googling 'owners direct' or 'home and away rentals' and look for city car service (cheaper than a taxi) to get you from airport to accommodation.

I think which airport or station is the arrival point in London is key as is if you are coming weekends, or during the week.

If you are looking for good hotels....
I also like to go to out of the way places .
For accommodation my first choice would be Gites de France hotels or bed and breakfast near these places.
And Bresy - where there is an airport.

Know your budget for accommodation, in £ if possible, and how many nights you plan to stay in London.
Ignore London Pass IMO. Your better bet is an Oyster card, basically you put cash on it, cash gets deducted for every trip, it won't cost more than any other system of paying (such as Travelcard or single fare). What to do in London depends on your interests...

Please change to a central London hotel.
Inconvenient unless it is for the airport.
