Hi ladies I'm just thinking about preparing my body for a future pregnancy and was wondering if anyone could recommend what the best folic acid tablet to take is or should i take a combo one like the pregnacare pre conception one? Any input is appreciated...

Mcg of Folic Acid - but I don't know if these are ok to prepare your body for pregnancy...

Can folic acid cause a metallic taste in mouth? im trying to concieve and due for my period in a few days. i have a metallic taste in my mouth and gums feel kind of like a battery. i was wondering if folic acid can cause this.

No...but it's a symptom....
GOOD LUCK!! It never has for me, but pregnancy can cause that, as I'm sure you've researched.
I know that it can be a side effect of pregnancy, but i don't think it starts that early on.
It never has for me personally.

Hi all,
is it necessary to be on folic acid 12 weeks before trying? are the risks of tubal defects much higher if we didn't wait the 12 weeks?

If there is a history of neural tube defects in the family, or if you know you are deficient in folic acid in the family....
Are the result of an unplanned pregnancy where the mother wasn't on pre-conception folic acid.

I didn't take any suppliments like folic acid that I should take as a woman because I wouldn't be able to get enough in food in my stomach and....
Had all the B's ascobic acid, folic acid etc.
Componant of it flared me.

Folic acid is water soluble so you pass out the excess in your.
So by taking both you would still be underFow what I know theres no harm .
Of a folic acid tablet or centrum pregnancy is 400 mcg normally.

I think I took a gram (plus whatever was in my PNV.) My first MFM suggested it (so I wouldn't have started that until 16 weeks) and when I left him for another MFM (at 22ish weeks) he said I could keep taking it, wouldn't hurt, but he wouldn't have prescribed... .

As the title says can you have too folic acid? Ive stoppped taking vit c as I have been having Metalic taste in my mouth still and wonder if that has contributed. Plus im not pregnant. I would love to say being tired is a sign but i do get tired once ...

I think if you are higher risk at spina bifida (family connections?) they advise you to take more anyway I agree with Steph but don't get why you would be taking more than the recommended anyway?

They will not get that sufficient dose by eating....
acid is required prior to pregnancy.
