I'm currently running a site whose trafic is distributed among 7 mirror servers right now (using DNS round robin). But soon more mirrors will be necessary given the high amount of traffic which is permanently growing.
Is there any practical o recommended...

There is no hard limit, but most sites do not run more than 5 or 10 mirrors .

We switched shared hosts from a local mom and pop to crystaltech. The site was all copied over and ready for the DNS change. The mom and pop site offered no tools to manage DNS ourselves, so we had to make a phone call and time the final move...

It might have been nice to have the old DNS provider change the TTL to 8 hours (or less the DNS TTLs at 3 days....
DNS is cached at so effect there.
And erroneously call "DNS propagation." It is actually called cache expiration.
