Classic Afternoon Tea I had in London was at the Ritz Hotel, but I can recommend the Haymarket Hotel first afternoon tea next month! If you and your girls are girlie, you might enjoy the Zandra Rhodes, there are literally hundreds....

Is there some disconnect here between "tea" and "afternoon tea" ? An "afternoon tea" traditionally comes with food - sandwiches cake and so on.

I think you'd have 2 options on where to stay, if you stay in central London, you can get a car to the airport but it's quicker and airport hotels tend to be cheaper than central London hotels.
