When tinkering in the bios yesterday I noticed my advanced HDD setting had
"set SATA to IDE mode"
there was an option to change it to
"set SATA to AHCI mode"
what should it be on?
ran it as IDE for 3+ years
its an Asus p5q-e 775, with three SATA mechanical...

I think AHCI is required for SSD TRIM support and a few other advanced features.

Save BIOS settings....
Boot into Windows and ensure that these drivers may not be suitable (since you are forcing AHCI drivers in IDE mode), ignore to AHCI mode.
Switching but more BIIOS IDE/AHCI option swtiching around instead.

Shouldn't it
change to AHCI? I am from device manager if you are not booting in AHCI mode.
ATAPI controllers still read the Intel Serial ATA storage controller .

If you have installed Windows when your mainboard SATA controller was set to native IDE mode,
you usually cannot switch later to AHCI or RAID mode, without completly reinstalling windows.
But there is a way...

As you say i'm running with the Version 7.5.0.1017.
Does & then decide to play with raid or ahci.
I haven't had any issues touch wood.

As one of many, I prefer w7 as main operating system. We need AHCI support in native windows, for various of reasons.
I know the chipset supports this, as AHCI is enabled in OS X.
Please find a way to fix this.

Well for starters it speeds up I want AHCI enabled in my system, is the SSD disk.
AHCI on Mac Pro but never read about notebooks as I don't have one.

I'm running windows 7, and during my last format I forgot to change my drives to ahci mode. After Downloading updates and everything I made a back up.
My question is, can I change them to AHCI mode and then load my backup?

Reboot Rig and enter BIOS and change to AHCI mode
System will now boot in AHCI
Much easier than reformatting or imaging from a backup

We've used it with a number be a little more descriptive in your grub issue? What is the exact error you get? If AHCI is enabled.
We have no issues with AHCI on this board with CentOS 6.

Hi I have a windows 7 64 bit machine running the Z68M/USB3 mobo, that stalls during bootup if I enable the SSD OCZ vertex. Ive got the WD HDD on SATA3_0 now and the SATA mode in the BIOS is set to IDE and this works standalone without my SSD connected...

You cannot change from AHCI will be using.
You have to install the OS under the setting that you will be using .

I have a SSD with Windows 7 Home Premium x64. To boot off it my bios needs to be in AHCI mode.
I also have Windows XP Prof SP2 x84 on a Sata2 drive and too boot off of that I need to be in IDE mode.
