Central a/c is not working. Unit outside just makes a faint buzzing noise. It is a York and was installed in 1999. Do you think it is worth fixing or just get a whole new A/C? What brands are good?

The fan wasn't one at any heating / air conditioning place, or if you have an electrical business around that deals not.
The second one was in a friends house.
One new capacitor later and we had air.

I have a box fan for every room.
I never use the central heat, too expensive, and seems to cause more as the A/C, haven't used it in 2 years.
Good thing left about California.

Call the company that made the air conditioners (it should say on the side.
You need an EPA someone to fix it.
A/C systems for home usually take R-12 or R-22 which cannot be purchased by anyone.

No, you do not need them, Air conditioners are the least efficient dehumidifiers! While they do remove moisture, if you are in a humid climate, a dehumidifier in conjunction with your A/C would be best and reduce running costs and times ....
