DIY intercooler for oil fired furnace Idea:
I have a typical furnace setup - oil burner, forced air. the exhaust pipes from the burner (to the chimney) are extremely hot to the touch when the furnace is on. This is wasted heat!
Could I wire in a relay...

With that you have a/c in summer and unit can heat in winter.
You may get away with heat pump with back up gas furnace furnace.
It will cost you more then new ductwork and force air.

I’m essentially 100% wood heat. Haven’t burned a drop of oil since 2009-2010 for heat, and even then, I was supplementing as much as possible with pellets, so rarely used my oil heat. Anywho - had to use the oil today because the entire family...

Ok...possibly a stupid question.
If you have a ducted HVAC system (so forced air heat and/or just central a/c) and you DON'T have returns in every room - do you have issues with keeping doors closed?

Our primary form of babyproofing is closing doors to have forced air and heat yes you would have a return in each bedroom along with each other large room to the spaces.
But we live in a two-story home with central air.

How often do y'all change your filters?
Do y'all change the filter after a certain time interval?
Or, Do y'all change the filter when a visual inspection warrants a change?

Do a tune up efficiency furnace installed....
All with pleated filters.
It filters returns in every bed room along with a large central return.
Have an electronic filter installed in the cold air return.
Buy cheep filters change often.

We decided that in addition to addressing air leakage in the home, we'd also go for more comfort, and put out a bid for a heat pump system. Based on our 11.8c/kwh electric vs. the uncertainty of oil prices in the future, we decided to go all-electric....
