Which Uses More Electricity----Air Conditioners or Several Fans? My husband thinks an portable air conditioner would be more cost effective, than using 4 fans, in our living room. (We don't have central air.)

Window air conditioners work better than portable air conditioners....
Try this out if you like.
I have noticed air conditioners blow the coldest air when the fan speed is on low.
And adjust the thermostat.

Old house, radiators, no ductwork and no we are NOT punching holes in every room in my house to run central air.

Yes..We actually have central air..but like you said..OLD house, and not much duct work upstairs kitchen, a bathroom and 2 closets) but it was so hard to control the air in that place!

NOT KIDDING.
We used to get a bill of 8-9k in the old house with 2 General window ACs but now we get a bill of only 4 k .
Daily maybe, for 6-7 hours.
As for home, we use 3 acs regularly, 2 1.5 tons and one 2.2 tons .
