Hello, We are staying four nights at the Akumal Beach Resort in August, and wodering if we should rent a car from Expedia for $13.50 a day or take a taxi cab to and from the airport for what looks like it costs around $150. Any hidden dangers of renting...

Tulum is VERY easy to get to from Akumal - just a short taxi or collectivo.

Just wondering what the bug situation is in and around Akumal and Tulum . We will be staying at GBP-Coba next week and just want to prepare myself. Mosquitoes and tabanos LOVE me.

We snorkeled Akumal + Yalku, a beachfront restaurant....
Add in Akumal Bay will have a car and like exploring so I think we will do Akumal and Yal-ku.
Yal-ku is the same as xel-ha only smaller and much less expensive .
In feel & price.

Take a look at the Accommodations tab over on Locogringo.com .
I've only stayed there twice, once for 3 nights last year in a condo a friend rented (that one had no pool) but I am sure others will have pools .

The colectivos the collectivo several times during our stay in April going to Akumal, Playa and a few other places at the resort or in Akumal.
The bus (colectivo) ride from the GP to Akumal is only a five minute ride.
