Does this sound like a fake virus alert?

Unlikely that Microsoft or Avira would do anything like that. There's a rather long running fake anti-virus scam program that changes names every so often. It's really quite impressive in how it looks pretty authentic at first blush. It goes by names like AntivirusXP, Antivirus 2009, Antivirus 2010, and others. I will say that the most likely attack vector for this program was the P2P program you are using. Those things are just asking for trouble, legal and technical, so you really should dump the lot of them. source

Photobucket and viruses?

I havent been having any issues, but I have all out wedding pics loaded on pb and sent the link to our families. Miranda's step father who is also the head IT guy for one of the largest companies in the US had his work computer shut down due to viruses when he tried to open it. It was trying to send him tons of popups for viagra and such. source

So, what's the best Antivirus Software?

I had that same problem a couple weeks ago and the only thing that seemed to work was Microsoft Security Essentials. If you have Windows then it's free to download and it will scan daily and remove whatever it finds. source
