It might be worth getting some genuine....
American currency exchangers must be pretty clued up on the authenticity of other countries currency.
I would expect it’s because Mexico may not have the same rules/tests for counterfeit money.

Expenses?? They can exchange USD for pesos, but you can only exchange up to $1,500.

Bring your ATM card and withdraw money from the ATM machines there.
