I have an Acer aspire 5000. When I turn it on, the ambwer power LED blinks 6 or 7 times, and no booting happens. From my googling, it seems to be a power issue.
I tried swapping out for a different power supply from another acer. The pos/neg charge is...

That is, you shouldn't connect a 3.95amp powersupply to a device that will pull 5 amps.

Are you certain these are really 12V amps? If you simply supply an amp with too low ohm speakers?
A 40W @ 12V ....
You of 5A.
A 40W @ 12V amp will not only consume 3.3 Amps, that would make it 100% efficient which none are.

This means that....
Basically the ampere rating is a maximum value.
I really wouldn't try to swap them around, clearly one machine is capable of drawing more than the other and if you get it wrong then the PSU will go pop and potentially be dangerous too .
