Another way to go is to concentrate less on the boot and possibly go with an ankle brace Rebel boots ....
boots that actually offer any real ankle support would be a competition grade boot, read something pricey.

It's important that the ankle is anchored firmly in place by the heel pocket of the boot.
When you move your foot, you want that boot to move as a unit in your boot.

I bought a new pair of dressage boots a couple of months ago and while they were tight (in the ankle area) when I tried them on, I figured that I would have to wear them around the house, for a while anyway, to break them in. Well we've had such a mild...

I found these Steve Madden Shakkerr boots for just shy of $50. They are real suede uppers.

Also how many outfits you could pair with them.
I would take into consideration how often you might actually wear them .
I think that the price is reasonable.
I actually really like them! That's coming from a chick who generally doesn't like booties .

Gents,
I recently picked up a pair of interesting black leather ankle boots and they raise a question. The boots are the expected pre-WWII half-boots with laces/eyes/hooks on the front that I intend to use with a set of leather puttees for a Weimar Republic...
