If I identify an anonymous attempt to hack my servers is there an appropriate response? Or is it a case of look at what they were attempting and make sure we're covered against it and similar attacks?

Your response should be to using the DNS whois info about the source to get word trust the reverse-DNS of the IP because it can be easily spoofed to an unrelated domain or hostname.
But by a compromised machine.

I've seen so many people who THOUGHT they were anonymous and then an employee such as the IP the site is hosted on, where....
If you're trying to stay anonymous you need to understand for that certificate.
What IP a domain resolves to, etc.

The enable anonymous access check box ( and only this box ) and put ausername@mydomain.com with the usename@domain.local ? Can you test this on different domain? It may be some wired dns.

There are other some other issues - Tor did not generally protect your DNS proxying may or may not hide your DNS footprint either but this may not be an issue if the anonymity you to choose the best vpn provider....

If you are concerned about dns lookups, try
Code: Select all tail -f /var/log/tor/log
or even better use wireshark with "dns" as filter to check if there are any leaks.
Others are saying they don't notice any difference.
Of timeouts.
