I am installing WinXP on my mom's computer and seeking the best open source anti-spyware I can download that will actually work. Thoughts?

If it's not for professional use, Lavasoft's Ad-Aware is pretty good .
spyware removal tool (and if there is, it has yet to make a notable reputation for itself alright but rather a virus scanner than a spyware removal tool.

I am already using antivirus on all our PCs, and, of course, we're behind a firewall. Does anti-spyware software like adaware still provide an additional benefit, or does modern antivirus/firewall software solve this problem?

This exact behavior is up to the browser but this is the common practice to allow the same cookie across multiple sub-domains... .
You could check that your auth cookie is using the domain .bar.com which should work at www.bar.com , foo.bar.com , etc.bar.com .

Removal of malware caused loss of internet (wired connection) wireless router works though. logs are attached. also lost connection prevented combo fix to download recovery console.
