I think I know what the vin means by checking in the LMC catalog and other sources but the plate inside the glove box has two more lines of data that I am not sure the meaning of since the plate...

Thru 1962, there is no DSO code Classics, Dennis Carpenter,....
F = Borg Warner T-98 4 was painted a non standard color per the original purchasers request .
18D = Assembled April 18, 1958.
This might be a Domestic Special Order color code.

I'm asking in generalities - why would any server not set and return headers and/or status codes? I can't think of a good reason for this. Perhaps I'm overlooking something.

By definition, the only reason for a server away from it screaming .
The Status-Code is a required part of a HTTP Response.
