Ignore London Pass IMO. Your better bet is an Oyster card, basically you put cash on it, cash gets deducted for every trip, it won't cost more than any other system of paying (such as Travelcard or single fare).
What to do in London depends on your interests...

Buy for the zones you want, probably the centre only, and that's all your bus and tube travel covered.
For London transport, I suggest buying a travelcard on the day - works from 0930am to 2am the next day.
