Do not file your FAFSA as married....
Put down that you're separated.
FAFSA does not require that you be "legally separated".
It sounds like you're indicating that you're but not legally .
You need to indicate on FAFSA that you're separated.

The 2011-2012 FAFSA is for fall 2011, spring 2012, and summer-2012.
You want to fill out the FAFSA the year you will attend and then every year after the first you will have to do a renewal.

My father's income and assets put me out of the running for any need-based aid. But alot of schools say a student must submit one by a certain date. I also understand that merit aid can only be obtained through the fafsa. How much of this is true?

From what I can see, I need to apply for the PLUS loan separately, it doesn't go together with FAFSA.

My parents' gross income this year was 130k, but my dad lost his job in the summer and we are not sure when he will find a job. I submitted the FAFSA to a few schools and it gave me an EFC of 36k and a $5.5k Stafford loan. Is this reasonable? It just ...

FAFSA, then a 36k EFC sounds reasonable.
Transfer students often get little or nothing.
Incoming frosh get the best FA and the best merit scholarships .

I'll the list in December.
Our county system has summary statistics and scatter-charts showing a difference how much you can pay? My FAFSA won't need to be finished until next January, I think.

How does one affect the other? I received $60,000 over four years in scholarships, but that's only tuition, plus there is no way that will keep me out of the deep end of the financial debt pool...if I get a lot of scholarship money, does that affect how...

I know the FAFSA is just a form, I guess I just worded it incorrectly of $26k per year?
Can you do....
What is your EFC?
Anyway year to help pay for college.
It's just an app that will give you an EFC.
