Does anyone know of a Django 1.0 + postgresql + apache + mod_python VMware appliance? A "vanilla" Django 1.0 appliance where postgresql can be installed manually would also do.

Another option I've had moderate success with
TurnKey Linux Django Appliance.
Configure and build your appliance at Elastic Server On-Demand
It might be a little too heavy Developer Appliance .

I know the Google Search Appliance has access to this information (as this factors into the PageRank Algorithm), but is there a way to export this information from the crawler appliance?
External tools won't work because a significant portion of the content...

The W3C one can also detect redirects which is useful if your server handles 404s by redirecting instead of returning a 404 status code.... .
I usually use the link checker provided by W3C.
Might be something available on Google, but I have never checked .

We're currently using Content Catcher, a hosted spam solution. For less than what we pay them per year, we could purchase an anti-spam appliance to run in house. From a simple dollar perspective, it looks like a no brainer.
What are the downsides to running...

Typically a hosted service won't "just break".

I was checking some firewall options and I was uncertain about the difference in performance between an appliance and a solution of "server+software".

Etc/rc.local would be my first guess, but you might just want to try searching /etc
Add something obvious, eg:
echo "TEST SubsequentBoot"
Then grep /etc/ for it:
grep -r SubsequentBoot /etc
If it's not in /etc try looking in /var, /boot, /opt, /usr/local... .

I'm using VMware Studio 2 to create virtual appliances. Now we want to make an appliance of a 64 bit Ubuntu distro, but it's not in the template list, like Redhat 64bit and CentOS 64bit. Is there a way to do this?

Use a generic Linux 64.
Here's a link to the dev guide.
There should be an option saying something like "DEB" or "Debian" as opposed to the RPM builds for the RHEL/CentOS ones you've already done, that's certainly how you do it from a command line .

But first thing is if you could let us know what the appliance is? For example there are a number of companies who.
And check what it takes for them to develop your appliance and put your brand.

Brightmail should work just fine on XEN but Symantec don't want to support it on XEN because their people don't know anything... .
Most VPS hosting companies use XEN because it has a lower total cost, and because VMWARE is not very hosting-company friendly .

Out of curiosity, is anyone here using Google Mini or Google Search Appliance to provide intranet search? Was it easy to set up? What kind of prices do they charge (ball park figure, I'm sure it depends on the customer)?
