UK Appliances work in Japan?
As bibimbob says, it will work but only at half power. My razor has a switch to go to US voltage and then seems to work perfectly in Japan .

Why Appliances Make More Noise At End Of Process?
I think this might be particular to you appliances, as I have never noticed this phenomenon with any appliances I have ever owned or worked on. With the single exception of air compressors, which always make more noise just before they shut off. This is due to the increasing output pressure at the end of it's cycle.
