Is there a uniform way in .NET to get application path (physical) both for windows applications and asp.net applications ??

You would typically consider the "application directory", so in the end I would say.

Wikipedia entry I have come to believe that the biggest difference between an enterprise application and a "normal" one is that whereas a regular application tries to enable the user to do as many things as easily and as flexible as possible....
Java application uses hsql to store data, can I .net application odbc to that?

You can with HSQLDB version 2 and the ODBC driver .

If you to use the same name for newer released... .
Just because your application is replaced does not mean the data the user created is replaced.
But then updating the old database or preferences to work with the new version of the application.

Managed code, is a type of executable that runs within a virtual machine, rather than as native machine code .
For instance, an ASP.NET web application is both.
An application runs under a server which responds to web requests.

You can use the Assembly.GetReferencedAssemblies() on the external WPF application assembly and see I get this for application and compare it with above mentioned GUID.
The iphone supports a means of defining your application's settings such that it will automatically create a UI in the Settings app. I want to also allow the user to edit the application settings within the application but it'd be nice to reuse the same...

You can alter those values in your app, then switch to... .
Settings.app will put the settings in NSUserDefaults under the keys specified in your Settings.bundle plist file .
There is, however, a way to reuse the data.
No there is not a way to reuse the UI .

It is not possible to tell....
From windows so the parent will be explorer.exe , otherwise the parent will be the application which run running application has a parent application , which launched it (except for root system process).
