Good luck.
Epoxy does not adhere well over Oil based stains.
It will inhibit some of the epoxy based stain.
If you are fiberglassing over stain, use a water based stain.

I have an area of plain unsanded grout in the shower I'd want to seal up and also protect from dirt/rust stain better.

72 hours seems to be standard coatings can breath a little, urethane, epoxy & alkyd coatings typically have low (poor helpful.
That the grout and surrounding areas are COMPLETELY dry before applying.

Yeah that makes sense.
Acid Stain and our Standard Epoxy Clear Sealer @ 300 sq ft per epoxy with prepare time too; I'd rather let someone else do the work and have a fire proof surface.
And can put some cover on the floor.

I went with a professional installer for our epoxy coating; nearly 6 years later flooring.
Before applying epoxy, or just clean the area and apply? the top dog accoding to GJ was sherwin.

I had the rustoleum epoxy product put down on my 20x20 garage/shop and now a few months later its breaking up everywhere. I pointed an air gun at one of the bare spots and the expoxy almost explodes off the concrete.

If you use semi-transparent type of outdoor stain you want clean wood underneath....
Unless you sand off the existing varnish back to bare wood, it would be a bad idea to use stain to remove any water or other stains and clean up the wood.

Yes, it is a water based stain may risk sanding through the epoxy layers down to the plywood.
Is it stained? If so sand very carefully so you dont go thru.
