I didn't mind that it was arid, just that it was ugly like a little more nightlife, beach....
Provo sounds easier, but we nonexistent (we knew that going in).
Sounds like a chore to get there through customs twice, ferry, taxis, etc.

It sounds like you're describing Vancouver (or Pacific Northwest), not the northeast.
