I think the "Drawing the head and hands" along with "figure drawing like you've rubbed the pencil to shade it, try to abstain from that as shading gradually with pencil will ALWAYS top ....
For begginer artists like ourselves.

Along with other forms of shading techniques, that puts my pencil for using ballpoint.
The life drawing is also very strong, great contour lines
Welcome application of cross-hatching.

It's not that drawing from comics or freeze learn anatomy from magazines.....
But enrolling into classes where you can draw from a model or get advices from a tutor that adress your drawing directly - will get you there even faster.
