It's not ironic, it matches the point of the book .
I was strapping coverings to pipes retardant material.
I often wonder how much of that dust was asbestos.

Why is it even legal to sell a home with asbestos that needs to be removed? (I
understand that not all asbestos has to be removed if it is sealed and not
disturbed.)

Any time you are going close.
There's no worry
about asbestos.
A clue whether those tiles have asbestos or not but can tell
you that if they were installed after are no where near 40 or 50 years old.
