So i've been around the forums, reading people saying that combat is the best for pve, then subtlety and then assassination.
is this true? cause I always loved the assassination spec since WoW had come out.

Assassination behind, still doing competitive (average) dps.
I might do more with another spec but I enjoy Assassination more depending on the fight.
For the content my guild is doing.

I heard recently a combat rogue with assassination off spec was popping vendetta on a target before the pull then changing spec and the debuff wouldn't fade, I have not spec'd assassination in a while and I was wondering if someone could confirm this....

It seems to work, however, I just did a quick test run on the dummy and dps was around 3k lower with the trick .
It did work pre whatever patch just came out, I can't really confirm if it still works tho Still works, I do it all the time .

Its mostly down to the fact that Sub and Combat both share very similar stat priorities (as in mastery is pretty bad for both specs but by far the best for Assassination) so a combat MS / sub OS is quite a sensible choice.
Is a great shame as Assassination...

I was reading about using the SO_LINGER socket option to intentionally 'assassinate' the time-wait state by setting the linger time to zero. The author of the book then goes on to say we should never do this and in general that we should never interfere...

In TIME_WAIT you are just waiting for any stray packets to arrive at the local address .
It occurs after a TCP FIN on the local side followed by a TCP FIN ACK from the remote location .
TIME_WAIT is absolutely normal.

It's the lowest single target dps spec of rogues. Combat outperforms it on almost every fight thanks to no positional requirement and cleave. Sub has the worst positional requirement, but has the burst and single target dps to make up for it on fights...

I used to love Assassination....
Basically, Assassination needs be clipped? I don't think that'd solve the issues with Assassination, but it definitely needs is doing fine.
As Assassin's AoE is based around sustainable AoE and not burst.
