My in-laws live in Sarasota, FL. They do not want to move far from their community if possible but recent health issues have sped up their need for assisted living care for my FIL. We are not familiar with the area and are currently on the west coast....

I'm not sure exactly how you are defining "assisted living" but will offer a couple of thoughts living complexes that offer some assistance which were not classed as "assisted living" because ranging in what service is offered.
