Assisted Family Living Senior

I recently bought mom a cell phone, especially for emergencies when she goes out alone. I tried to buy a simple standard cell phone, but she says it's too complicated and it has been sitting on her dresser turned off for two weeks, any suggestions? source

Most states have group homes that will take Medicaid for those with physical and mental illnesses that are under 65. Some independent senior subsidized apartments will accept those who are disabled and under 65 and you should be able to get home and community based services to help with daily tasks through Medicaid. Hospitals are limited to only critical care and they wont keep someone for observation. There are limited mental health facilities and most are left to live independently and cope as best they can. As long as he isnt under guardianship, you cant get him commited to an inpatient facility. source

My father who is 75 and has Parkinson's would like to go through and edit down his many boxes of 35mm slides. I would like to get him an easy to use slide viewer that he can use in his assisted living facility. I have seen a number of simple slide viewers available to purchase on Amazon. Can anyone make a recommendation on one that is easy to get the slides into and out of? source

With DH's mom we actually had to go to court and have a judge declare her incompetent, because she was so uncooperative. She is on the East Coast, and has Alzheimers, and by the time we found out how ill she was, it was to the point where she needed Alzheimers care. It was amazing how well she hid it for a very long time. Finally, her bank called us because she was just writing bad checks over and over and clearly could not manage her finances. When the social worker came to talk to her about everything, DH's mom actually pulled a knife on her, because she didn't want to go. There comes a time when you become your parents, parent, and you just have to stick by your convictions, because they are no longer able to make good decisions. It would be horrible for you and your dad if he hurt someone one in an accident. source

I truly enjoy sitting back and watching my children raise my grandchildren. I say nothing, but I gloat over the way they eventually find out that my way of discipline is much more effective than theirs. A good old-fashioned spanking works better than all the negotiating that parents do with their kids. In the end, the kids are the winners and the parents are wrapped around their little fingers. I always let my kids know who was in charge and a spanking was the last resort, but when it came down to the spanking I didn't hesitate for a moment. The results are 11 beautiful, healthy, mannerly and successful children. So, why do the "experts" try to tell us that we shouldn't spank our children? I will bet that those "experts" don't even have children of their own. source
