This DC put a lien on this case for his bill for the old accident.
To add that from my understanding, even of the lien is adjudicated, the patient is still liable for a different, unrelated accident.

If there is a lien, you could also offer to buy the lien from the former boss coffee cup and drive away....
Regardless though, a lien would have to be filed and recorded by the court to convey title.
