Can you get a virus from downloading a .avi file? (say from torrent)

The virus writer would have to craft the AVI to trigger a bug in your media player, and then somehow depending on the player....
But if it is AVI, then u can surely.
These are the suspectible ones.
From some website to view the movie.

I have an .avi file that is about 110mb. When I try to play it with VLC Media Player it says something like "This file is broken. Attempt to repair?" and after it does its thing it is still unable to play it.

They can play files called SuperDecoder .
Just open the fileI've had good experience so far with Media Player Classic and The KMPlayer .
VirtualDub can do pretty amazing things with broken AVI files.

There is an article about converting VRO....
After that you can just use your regular DVD encoding software to convert it to a smaller.
To this topic you can use the open-source program dvd-vr to extract those VOB files from the VRO files.

Techsmith's Camtasia Studio can record....
You can save the slides as images (File -> Save as -> select suitable image file format in the file formats list), and then use Windows Movie Maker to make an avi or wmv file of the images.

For your AVI files, you might also look into VirtualDub 's RIFF time because I saw it appear when reviewing the .avi's through uLead.
Looking for is even present in the files.

Because I have movies in that movie format on my computer. My Xbox 360 doesn't read AVI videos but it reads MPEG vids. now I'm worried because my favorite movies are in the AVI format and I'm hoping it'll work on the touch.
