Furthermore, HandBrake's AVI....
It does not support modern display.
It is obsolete.
AVI: AVI is a rough beast.
AVI support was removed in 0.9.4 so any removed from HandBrake.
HandBrake (versions < 0.9.4) can do this for free.

Does anyone know of a good and free AVI->MPG converter with no restrictions ?
I downloaded a trial version of ImToo AVI MPEG converter, but it only allows you to convert 5 minutes of video.
