It may be different in environments other than ones I'm familiar with (high alpine pair of gaiters, too.. .
backpacking experience with snow is way up in the mountains, and usually up there the snow is hard for backpacking.

I have seen the following work really good in cold cold weather on the backpacking trails....
Everything real problems for backpack stoves.
I use for backpacking/ backwoods hunting.
Unleaded fuel, diesel, vodka, you name it.
Anything.

But a well trained dog is a great companion, and a joy to backpack with.
Depending where you plan to backpack with your dog:
Dog boots
Dog Medications (If needed)
Dog into the backcountry, IMHO.

I may be in Durango for an externship during Jul/Aug - considering taking a week of vacation time after that and doing some backpacking. Is there anything near the area? I'm new to the Durango area.

Are there any good places for a 1 or 2 night backpacking trip in southeastern PA? I've hit a few spots along the AT but I'm having trouble finding other trails that allow overnight backwoods camping. Let me know if any good spots come to mind!

So next summer after my bf graduates, we may go backpacking through Europe with a few friends.
The only problem is my job. I don't want to quit it, but I doubt anyone will want me leaving for a couple of months or so. But we'll see about that... My job...

Take lots that's what Duluth is for.
Havnt been backpacking myself, but I think its a good idea to be going in a group.
